A large hotel in Sydney’s south east has seen vast improvements in security and safety for staff and customers as well as a reduction in property damage since Chubb installed a security CCTV system throughout the premises.

The Sands Hotel Maroubra, located in Sydney, NSW experienced vandalism, break ins, and even a hold up before the cameras were installed.

“The Chubb staff provided me with a complete security solution tailored to my premises that helped reduce many of the security and safety issues we experienced,” said David Shannon, Owner of Sands Hotel, Maroubra.

The premises can hold up to 500 people on a busy night and includes a bottle shop, bar area, outside courtyards, TAB area, parking and accommodation. These areas are now monitored by more than 20 CCTV cameras, which can record 24 hours a day.

“The CCTV cameras in the bottle shop act as a deterrent to reduce shoplifting and are also a useful way to detect credit card fraud and manage alcohol related aggression,” said Mr Shannon. “The system reduced driveway issues by identifying the entrants as well as helped detect cash register shortages, and one incident has already been successfully attended to” he added.

The Chubb system includes high resolution day/night colour cameras, a 320GB hard drive sufficient for approximately 2-3 weeks of recording. The cameras capture all patron areas of the hotel and are networked to allow remote management by night shift staff.

“The added benefit is that the customer is able to burn a CD of an event and immediately provide footage to police or to archive,” said Olly DSouza, National Manager CCTV and Digital Systems at Chubb. “The best part is that the system doesn’t need a player or playback software as an autoplay CD is automatically created with the relevant footage,” he added.
