Chubb launches next generation in video security sureveillance

Sydney 9 July, 2008 – A new modular video surveillance and storage system from Chubb is providing organisations  with the security tools they need to more easily and affordably detect, capture, and record criminal activity.  The advanced system, known as NVe offers customers superior image quality and improved remote access.  Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The system uses advanced technology to record video and audio in real-time at high-resolution.  Customers are also able to easily search recorded data using motion history searches.

The system is a collaborative effort between UTC Fire & Security companies Chubb and Verex.   One member of the MVP Project Team and Quality Review Board is Australian, Olly D’Souza, Product Manager CCTV & Digital Systems at Chubb Electronic Security. “NVe is most definitely the next generation in video surveillance.  It embraces the new IP networked environment and is compatible with old analogue video.  It represents a paradigm shift in video management”.

The advantages of NVe include the ability to view, record and replay up to 400 pictures per second, customers can use a standard USB memory stick to download video clips quicker and more easily, as well as the added benefit of built-in system diagnostics, which can send alarms via email, text or images to the service centre via an optional dedicated link.

Other benefits include secure remote logons authenticated with a password allowing the download of Video recording and the ability to search through recorded surveillance for an incident.

The new technology replaces expensive, old-fashioned, line-based solutions with a more cost-effective, high speed internet solution.  NVe utilises leading-edge H.264 video codec technology to provide superior video quality and reduce storage needs and network bandwidth utilization.

Following six months of field testing in Australia, Chubb was the first to launch the product on the market in Australia and has already installed more than 30 NVe solutions here.  There are 38 model variations of NVe that cater for any organisation from SMEs to large integrated environments with multiple sites or requiring a bank of NVe at one very large site.

One early adopter of the new system is Travelex Retail, a ‘bureau de change’ offering currency trading services for companies and people around the globe.  Travelex is upgrading its security standards in all stores.  The new NVe system has replaced out-dated CCTV for 10 stores at Sydney International Airport.

“The installation has been a resounding success with the units delivering superior quality images, the capability for real time playback and delivering in excess of 31 days storage - all of which are features that were not available with the older CCTV systems” said Peter Livesey, National Facilities Manager, Travelex, Australasia.

In South Australia, Chubb installed the new NVe system in the SA Liquor Management site and the new system proved its worth very quickly.

“Within the first week of installation, the customer was ram-raided one night.  Before the Chubb technician arrived the next morning to extract the footage the client had already viewed, removed and given the video footage to Police for evidence,” said Stuart Norton-Baker, Branch Technical Officer & Major Install Commissioner for Chubb Electronic Security.
